11 Dutch minister appointed president of Eurogroup
Minister of Finance Jeroen Dijsselbloem, 46, has been appointed president of the Eurogroup, the informal administrative body of the states of the Eurozone. ‘It’s a great honour for me to be given this job, particularly in these difficult economic times for the eurozone.’

On Friday, January 18, Canada celebrates the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet with a festive flag-raising ceremony at the base of the stairs in front of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Prior to the ceremony, the Dominion Carillonneur of Canada Dr. Andrea McCrady, will play some old Dutch songs on the Peace Tower carillon.

A conference for Dutch ambassadors is being held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Monday 14 January to Thursday 17 January. Today, the third day of the conference, was filled with productive discussion about the future of diplomacy. It is vital for the Ministry to adapt to the changing world in which it operates.

The business community is very satisfied with the role embassies play as links in the Netherlands’ policy of economic diplomacy. At the Ambassadors’ Conference, the missions’ services were put into practice during a ‘speed dating’ session with entrepreneurs.
16 Ambassadors’ Conference begins
‘For the Netherlands, Worldwide’ is the title of the annual conference which brings together Dutch ambassadors and consuls general in The Hague for a programme addressing current international themes and policy questions. There are many challenges, so an ambitious approach is called for. ‘The Netherlands must provide excellent service, both when it comes to promoting trade and performing consular tasks,’ said foreign minister Frans Timmermans.
17 Call for tender
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is inviting companies specialised in operating as External Service Providers to register their interest in a contract to assist Dutch foreign missions with the handling of visa applications and other consular services. This includes the recording of biometric data, data entry and scanning of supplementary documentation relating to applications.
18 Princess Margriet visits Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto
On Saturday, November 17 H.R.H. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands visited Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto. She met with 50 Canadian veterans who helped liberate the Netherlands at the end of the Second World War. Princess Margriet spoke with them about their courage and their contribution to our liberation. 19 Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet receives honorary degree from McMaster University
On Friday November 16, 2012 H.R.H. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands received an honorary doctorate of laws from McMaster University. McMaster University bestowed this degree upon Princess Margriet for her dedication to humanitarian work, her active involvement and achievements in the field of health care, and for her commitment to strengthening the relations between Canada and the Netherlands.
20 Canadian and Netherlands universities sign agreement for joint global health programs
Hamilton, ON (November 15, 2012) – Maastricht University of the Netherlands and McMaster University in Canada have signed a memorandum of agreement to provide joint graduate programs in global health. The unique affiliation is in response to the growing need for a well-prepared global health workforce to address today’s most pressing health issues that have no national boundaries, such as the need to develop vaccines to fight infectious diseases, to seek answers for the worldwide rise in heart disease, diabetes and cancer or to find ways for aid agencies to work effectively with governments.
